I
fell in love with the Punto, back in 1997, whilst test driving
a Fiesta Si.
Once I took this one for a cruise, I knew it had to be mine.
It
stayed standard for almost 4 months, when I had to have some
bodywork done to straighten a knee mark in the drivers door
(cheers Crog!) so while it was down at the Subaru bodyshop,
I told them to take out the locks, and filler the holes, as
it was already central locking, this added to the smooth punto
lines. Next was the fiat badge from the bonnet, it had to go!
With the addition of the headlight brows, the result is a mean
looking front ended punto.

Shortly
after that I aquired a set of 15" three spoke alloys (shown
above) even though 3 spokers were old news, it still looked
the dogs(and they were at the right price!). Until some silly
twat in a Merc A Class decided to cut me up at some traffic
lights, forcing me to mount the 10 inch kerb, killing 1 tyre
and both wheels on one side.
So
back on went the standard Fiat Dogleg alloys.
The sale of a couple of websites meant that I could invest in
another set of wheels, and after months of trying to find the
right ones, I decided on these.
LG 037 "Integral AE"
15 inches was all I could afford, but now I wish I'd had the
extra £200 for the 16's. It had to be lowered to compensate!.

Before Lowering
Spax
were the most reasonably priced lowering springs at £85.95
so I ordered them up and whilst I was waiting for them to arrive,
the passenger side, rear trailing arm decided that it no longer
wanted to be part of the car anymore (noutorious) and whilst
this was being changed, it was discovered that the rear shockers
were also shafted, so these were changed for Monroe sensa-trak,
gasmatic items.

Before Lowering
After
lowering the car all round, it became apparent that fiat's build
quality was just no match for my rallying skills, and soon after
the springs were fitted, I managed to put a little too much
presure on the Differential, causing it to throw a cog and chip
a tooth on the main shaft and grind a nice pattern into the
casing, FUCK! also during this time, both front shockers gave
up and pissed all their oil onto the floor, FUCK FUCK FUCK.
after a £746 repair bill (practically a new gearbox),
I was told to drive steady for a few thousand miles.
OMP
do a standard steel brace or an alloy one, which was slightly
more expensive, but I thought it would go well with the black
paintwork. It arrived and was fitted straight away, and makes
the under bonnet asthetics look mint!
I'd
Reccomend the K&N 57i to anyone with a 1600 Sporting, since
fitting, I have had endless fun scaring people as I drive by!
The induction roar you get from the K&N is amazing. Buy
one today!
Stopping
power has also been improved with the addition of a set of RED
DOT 20 Groove Brake Discs and matching pads.
A must for anyone who likes to stop just a fast as they go!
New
exhaust has been fitted 31st March 2001
Twin, Center Exit, 3" DTM Magnex.
Sounds like something out of Colin MaCrae's!
