Engine Performance Tuning For the Punto GT Turbo
Now the part you have all been waiting for, Engine upgrade.
There are two different way of tuning a Fiat Punto GT Turbo.
Option 1 is to go for a tune that gives a maximum of around
160 BHP. This option requires an aftermaket exhaust, a large
air filter and a chip, I recommend a DASKEK
Unichip as this then gives you the option to reprogram it
at a later date e.g after more mods have been fitted. This will
then deliver between 160 and 175 BHP depending on what exhaust
and air filter you have fitted and the condition of your engine,
Option 2 is to go for a power upgrade above 175 BHP up to a
practical limit of 200BHP. This requires all the parts from
option 1, but, also a fast road cam, water injection, cylinder
head modification and a larger turbocharger (HYBRID will cost
you around £700). If a fast road cam is fitted in conjunction
with the parts from option one then around 180-190BHP is possible
then more money is required for the last little bit of power
to take you to 200BHP and above. Option 1 will still keep the
original drive-ability, but, Option 2 will create a road going
monster! so you have been warned. The extra power in Option
2 will only make a difference above 5500 RPM to 6200 RPM. So
go for Option 1 and you can't go far wrong.
There are loads of other modifications on the market available
and it's impossible to cover them all, and all kinds of different
routes to achieve power. If you have modded a GT and have experiences
to share, please do so on the message board. Or email me
the details for a full feature page on the site.
